Marco

“You, come here.” I pointed to the dark brunette standing over by the marble counter. It wasn’t a surprise I was having another impromptu party at my Hollywood Hills home.

“I have a name, you know,” she purred as her heels click-clacked across my Italian marble floor.

“Good for you.” I leaned back against the sofa and laid down the Xbox remote. I didn’t give two shits what her name was. She was a distraction. I needed a distraction from all the bullshit around me. If I had to answer one more fucking question about my thoughts on Cal Walker, I might explode. If the general manager and owner of our team believed that throwing away draft picks when we could’ve picked up a top offensive lineman and a much-needed linebacker to get the flashy QB who hadn’t proven shit was what they needed to force my hand, well they could go fuck themselves.

I had skins on the wall and leverage. I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this franchise. This upcoming season would be no different. We had one losing season since I’d played for the organization. One. Did I wish last season would’ve been different? Hell, yes. Did I know going into the final year of my contract would be a media circus? Yes. That’s why I’d tried to keep a low profile and focus on training and football. I was hoping we could go ahead and negotiate a deal before the season started to bypass any headaches, and then ownership went and drafted one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. Douse more gasoline onto the speculation fire.

But the ultimate blow was Lily not responding to my calls. She told me to never contact her again. A bit dramatic, in my opinion, but maybe she wasn’t completely wrong considering I’d said some stupid shit to her that night under the influence when I’m quite sure I ended up going home alone. Then the night I called her, LaDarius was being a joker starting shit like he always does. I reluctantly understood where she was coming from. However, she didn’t need to treat me like I was Hurricane Marco either, set out to destroy her life. If anything, she was the one being cold and heartless.

“Lina. My name’s Lina.” The five-ten, rail-thin model shifted on her heels in the see-through cover-up she wore over her bikini. She plopped her bony ass down on my lap and crossed her long, tanned legs. My phone buzzed beside me, and I picked it up instantly, like I had a dozen times earlier thinking Lily would respond, but she didn’t. It was an alert from my ESPN app, reminding me once-a-fucking-again that Cal Walker was coming to the Wildcats.

I drained the snifter of Glenmorangie next to me and frowned. Lina was rambling on and on about who gave a damn. I think she might’ve been telling me her life story, the long, kill-me-now version, but I tuned it out and clicked on Instagram and found Lily’s profile.
